Brown, Waxy,Grease like smelly substance ruining all our clothes?

I have a top loader 10 years old, has always worked fine. Suddenly this smelly brown waxy stuff is all over our clothes. The smell is so unbearable it turns my stomach. We have taken the part off where the softener goes, cleaned it well. Then ran the wash and the brown was still there. I used the Clorox washing machine cleaner, Tide washing machine cleaner, Oxy Clean, Bleach. All with no success. What should I do?
