Hire or lend a smoke machine, fill car up with smoke, finds any leak were water gets in, did it with my galaxy and it was under bonnet, it works a treat and saves loads of time,

Had the same problem of the front passenger footwell filling up with water when it rained. Removed the grab handle and sun visors and pulled down the headlining to access the underside if the sunroof surround. Found that the drain hose was oddly too short to fit on the sunroof drain spigot. Used a short length if flexible garden hose to make the connection. No more leaks!

I have found the carpet in the rear passenger near side is wet. I have already fixed the problem in the front passenger side so does anybody know if there is a join for the rear windscreen washer in the back as well as the front?

Thanks for any advice

I have a 53 Ford Galaxy. Following the advice from previous posts we found the pipe in the side trim on the front passenger footwell & fixed the problem of the rear washer not working and the water problem. Wish I'd read these before it had reached the sensor module as now I have the secondary problem of no surround sensors! Looks like its going to cost me after all :-(

hi all ,.we own a 1999 t reg alhambra , we have the same problem both sides with water , just going down all avenues really , but , we bought a 1996 alhambra for spares recently and , found it dray as tinder , in footwells , so we saved all carpets and under lay too , for ours , but we found th rear washer pipe in footwell had no joint in it there , so why the heck did they ever put a join in there in other models , if this old 1996 didnt have one , strange , thanks for looking . colin

i found my leak was if you take out the side repeter indicator and look with a torch you will find the water runoff drain box section running through the inner wing and it can split on the bottom lip letting water run into the car, either side can leak mine was the near side foot well its very easy to fix just unscrew the plastic shield from under the wheel arch dont take it off just enough to get your hand in and fill the crack with rtv sealent or similar a garage would charge ÂŁ190 for doing it i did mine in under 10 mins simple

thanks for all your posts relating to these leaks, last summer i fell foul of the drivers side 'foot spar' leak! couldnt find the culprit apart from taking the wipers off & trim & cleaning the area from top of the windscreen to bottom & clear any debris around windscreen wiper motor lugs then filling any small holes & the large pillar hole in the arm & also along the windscreen sides with clear mastic sealer! - all was fab until last week when i stupidly went thru a car wash...ARRRGH!! the water just flooded in from under the passenger side lower glovebox...it washed from front to back of the galaxy & from then the windows were intermittent...up/down up/down...so i read on the internet that under the passenger seat was an ECU unit & relay that governs the central locking & windows - SO i slid the seat foreward armed with lots of rags etc & lifted the compartment under the seat & there was the unit!!...2 plastic bolts secure it & the surrounding area was soaked, so i lifted the ECU unit out & also took the relay out & took them into the house to clean & dry them,
the ECU slides out of its plastic cover which was very wet & was cleaned & dryed with a hairdryer really well & replaced back in the car (remember to dry the compartment where the ECU was as well or you will be just wasting your time....THEN your windows/central locking should be working again....as for the obligatory foot spar again....well i guess i will just have to do the same as i did for the other side with mastic!

just sorted my wet passenger footwell and drips from clock problem today. slightly different solution for me. i found the rubber drain bung above the wheel arch as described already on this forum. the bung was clear. i poured water down through the sunroof drain holes. on the drivers side the water drained to the ground via the aforementioned drain bungs. on the passenger side it drained down the door frame to the floor.
i found the problem was in the roof. i removed the sun visor and sprung handle, pulled away some of the door seal and freed away enough of the interior fabric to reveal the sunroof drain hole from the inside. the drain hose had become disconnected from the drain hose tail. it was also too short. i made an extension using a bit of rubber hose, steel tube and a couple of jubilee clips and the problem was gone. if it had been a weekday i would have bought some plumbing parts to do a bit of a better job but this will do for now.
it also stopped the occasional leak from the clock area.

Thanks to all for the invaluable tips here.

Who in their right mind puts a connector for the rear wash hose under the carpet in the passenger footwell? GRRR!

Full of water. Half an hour with the wet/dry vacuum cleaner and still sodden.

Decided to CAREFULLY cut through the rubber on the sound deadening mat, rip away the sodden felt and replace it with felt from the local carpet store.

I have remade the joint this time securing the pipes with tiny Jubille clips.

I say again, what a damned stupid design 'fault'.

i have got the same problem,i stripped the wiper arms then pulled out the plastic casing that allows the water to run down i cleaned the debre out and used an old coat hanger to un block the holes, this was fine until i found that the plasic casing that goes back in frontwards sits on a rubber seal, and with all the water that has amounted there ,it has caused a bit of corrosion i removed the rubber and cleaned it but the water still comes through the rubber seal its annoying me so im thinking of selling it on,good luck to you all and thank ford for this problem.

The water in the pasenger footwell for me was caused by the join in the water pipe running to the rear washer wiper. Check this out too. After fixing it I note that water quirts out immediatly but before it took a few seconds because the water in the pipe had obviously ran out into the foot well.

I had the 'water-in-the-footwells’ problem twice on our Galaxy (a P reg), once each side for two different reasons.

On the drivers side, water was seeping in through a (manufactured) hole in the strut, beneath the plastic sealing strip that runs down the edge of the windscreen and meets the plastic cover around the bottom of the wiper. I lifted both bits of trim out, used some gutter sealant (permanently flexible but very sticky) to seal up the holes (which ford had only closed with a rapidly perishing WHITE rubber bung), and presto!...that was the problem solved on that side. It hasn’t returned since.

On the passenger side the problem was drain holes bunged up because, unlike the terribly technical piece of plastic that is commonly put in the top of household down pipes and other important draining-like-things, this hole is perfectly sized and positioned to be blocked by the first leaf that lodges there and there has been no attempt to prevent it from blocking. Also, it’s notable that the drain hole is almost completely inaccessible on the passenger side due to the proximity of the pollen filter.
SOooo, I bought two small baby-bottle cleaning brushes with longish handles and have lodged them in the holes. Now all I have to do to clear the holes every once in a while is to grab the reachable handle of the bottle brush and give it a jiggle! Isn’t it amazing that highly paid Ford engineers can think up such a simple solution to the problem, especially since this seems to have been a know design fault for so long!!!

SOLOUTION TO THE DRAIN HOLE PROBLEM
For those trying to find these drain holes, they are in the furthest back and outward corners of the section under the bonnet where the windscreen wiper mechanism moves. There is a removable plastic tray (thee hex screws - two under each bonnet hinge and one front-facing in the centre) which meets and seals to this section. Remove it and clean. Then in the furthest dark corners, where you cannot see them and can only find them by 'feel' are two plastic drain holes, in a figure-of-eight style, draining outwards, sideways into the wheel arches. If you really can't find them then it's probably best to go down the following route in order to locate the drains the first time (a one-off). Thereafter you’ll know what and where they are from the inside.
Jack the car up, put it on axel stands and then (once able to turn the wheels to make room to work) use a hex (Allen) key to remove the 8 or so screws that hold the plastic wheel arch liners in place. Remove the liners and look up rearward of the shock absorber for a black plastic horizontal figure-of-eight. Now, so that you know where to find it inside for future reference, once cleared (watch out for a rush of water when you do!) poise a torch to shine up through it and go look into those corners. You should see a little light shining up through the location of the holes. Now you know where to shove the bottle brushes.

There we are,… a permanent solution to the problem that will prevent you from having to take your car to the garage, or repeatedly remove the plastic wheel-arch liners to reach a silly little drain hole!

Ford,…take note, absorb and implement. A simple small cheap and effortless courtesy that may help you keep customers!

This may be of interest I have a ford galaxy 02 reg with persistent water leak in passenger footwell. Just managed to have it fixed after many false starts. It was the seal between the floor plate and where it meets the engine area the garage had to partly strip down the dashboard to put in a new seal apparently you could put your fingers through the gap.

Had same prob on 2000 galaxy. In heavy@ish@ rain passenger footwell got soaked. Removed wiper arms & plastic cover beneath. Got out as much debree as i could by hand (looked hardly any) used airline to blow through all ducts & drain holes in this area (pay particular attention to area directly behind battery. Once all cleaned i reassemble & never had same problem again. I repeat this proceedure twice a year now as this is very comon fault with Galaxy & both sister models. Whole proceedure takes max 45 mins to 1 hour & can save you a fortune.

its caused by leaves clogging up the ducting system. if you open the bonnet you'll see there are leaves under the windscreen.

Check the pollen filter seal and drainage holes top corners of engine bay, pour in some water and see that water comes out in wheel arch behind front wheel.

I had the same problem, and found that the tube leading to the rear windscreen washer runs through here under the passenger carpet. At the point where the pipe goes through to the engine bay, there is a join, and the pipe had come off, causing water to leak into the passenger footwell every time I tried to run the rear washer.
Its a real pain to put back together but try dipping the free end of the tube in some hot water for a few minutes, it gets a little softer, and makes it easier to put back on.
