CD player won't play?

I have a Home Sterio (I think it's a panasonic) that has a five disc CD player/changer. It's about 8 years old.
It has one tray that pops out and flips through the CD's internally.
It will open and close and move through CD's ok, but when I put a CD in it will try to play it but never starts, like it can't read the CD. Anyone know what's going on? Is it fixable?
