Mend Siemens iQ500 Dishwasher Programme

Why might my Siemens dishwasher not always start?

The red LED for the selected programme doesn't always come on. When it does, and I close the dishwasher expecting it to start the cycle, it doesn't start and I open it to see the LED is at the 'End' indicator.

Can I fix it? It's 10 years old. Is it worth fixing?
