checked battery new spark plug no spark to plug fuel ok can anyone help please ps what does a cdi unit do

the cdi supplies the spark to the spark plug, the bike won't run if it's broken. A cdi does now what points ignition did back then. A good breaker might have one, but it's got to be the exact one. cheers.
