the engine management lights come on our xsara picasso still drives fine ?

Your computer has detected a fault and it will need to go onto a code reader to determine what it is,may be something irrelevant and minor but there is no way knowing until this is done,if there is work needing done then advise to get it seen to sooner rather than later,good luck
