my Dyson dc28 animal disengages the clutch after the brush bar engages?

There are no blockages anywhere. I have removed clutch cover and belt cover and can't see anything out of place. The belt off the motor runs but when I engage the brush bar it stops after a second or two. Is there a switch? Or something I could look for?
