Miele CVA 4070 unresponsive with flashing screen?

Display screen is flashing repeatedly, with no clock visible. While each time it flashes you can hear the pump surge. "surge, surge, surge, surge" Flashes on display happen at the same time as the surge. Have tried flipping the power switch within the unit off and then back on. We have also tried flipping the breaker off and back on, as it is on it's own breaker. Today was the zero coffee's left before descaling needed to be done. Thoughts?
