My f and p smart drive 703 won't complete a cycle?

Our 703 continues to beep during the wash cycle. We need to press the advance button in order to complete the cycle.

I have tried to set it to diagnostic mode to determine the nature of the fault by pressing the water temp down button and power button but will not give me the two beeps which denotes diagnostic mode is on.

Any advice would be be most appreciated

Thanks for all your advice Lincoln, I have decided to go with a new washer, the hot and cold valve would have cost me around $100 to replace, better to put towards a new washer with warrantee.

Again appreciate you taking the time to advise me.

Remove the hose from the inlet valve & point it in to the sink. Turn tap on & confirm there is a strong flow. Next check the filter in the inlet valve where you screw the hose on. If it looks blocked, pull it out with some pliers & clean it. Put filter & hose back on. Then run machine with lid up so you can see how much water is flowing in. Your machine will either have a lid switch operated by a push button on the right hand side of panel. Remove the lid & push the switch in by hand to make the machine run. If no push button then it will have a reed switch mounted on right hand side of top deck which is operated by a magnet in the right hand side of the lid. Open the lid, get a magnet and place it near the reed switch. You may have to move it around a bit until you get the right spot & machine will start rotating & filling. If water flow is very weak & slow then replace the inlet valve.

Hi Lincoln, checked the drain hose for siphoning and it seems ok. Do you think it may be the inlet valve ??. Is there a way I can test ?? Or do you suggest that I just buy a replacement valve.

Cheers

The next possibility is that the water is syphoning out as it is filling. Is your drain hose going in to a tub or is it stuffed down a stand pipe. If in to a pipe then pull the hose up until you here it release the air. If too far down the pipe it causes an airlock vacuum which sucks the water out. Also, the drain hose has to be as high as the top deck before going down to any drain. Too low and it will syphon out. If these checks are okay then watch the end of the drain hose while it fills to see if any water comes out. There should be none draining while filling. The water must be going somewhere if not in to filling the bowl. There is only two possibilities. Either water is coming in far too slow or the water is escaping somehow.

The beep is as you have described ie a rippling musical sound with both the hot and cold water temp lights blinking.I haven't noticed any particular difference to the sound of the washer filling, it seems to be filling freely. I have checked the hoses and taps to make sure that there are no obstructions and all seems ok. I have checked and there are no leaks? Not sure where all that water is going, should it be going directly into the bowl ?? In answer to your earlier question, I have checked and can confirm that the casings are green.

Thanks again for any additional advice you can provide.

Ok, first question. Is it a steady beep once a second or is it a rippling musical sound like you get when you turn power on at wall. The first is an error beep & should have an error code showing along the top row. The 2nd sound is a user warning signal to tell you something is not right that the user can correct. It will have a light blinking. If either the hot temp, cold temp, or both are blinking it is telling you it is not getting enough water. Water level high blinking usually happens if it is overloaded i.e. heavy blanket. Fast spin light blinking means it can't get up to fast speed usually out of balance. I suspect yours will be the rippling sound with the water temp lights flashing because you say it is taking over half hour to fill. When it is filling, is the water coming in fast or just trickling in with a strange hissing sound?

Hi Lincoln, i ran through another painful cycle to test as you suggested and noticed that despite running water for more than half an hour the tub was still virtually empty. I only placed two very small items in the washer and it took well over half an hour for the wash cycle to commence.

Once the wash cycle commenced it starting beeping with all eight lights on the top row remaining lit (the first light flashed on and off). The eight top lights remained on from the time I selected my standard wash cycle, in other words, I think that the lit lights are an indicator of the selected wash cycle and not a diagnosis of the fault.I had to keep pressing the advance button to get through the cycle. It seems that the water is not getting into the wash bowl properly. Not sure if this is the cause.

Would appreciate any further suggestions.

Thanks in advance

You don't need to go in to diagnostic mode. Run the machine as normal. When it strikes a problem and starts beeping, do not press any buttons. Just read the fault code lights along the top row while it is still beeping. Count from left to right and tell me exactly which lights are on along that top row.
Also, check inside the top panel and tell me what colour the display panel & the main control module casings are. For a 703 they should be green.

Thanks Lincoln, appreciate you taking the time to respond. The problem I am experiencing is that I can't get it into diagnostic mode ie once I press the water temp down and power buttons I don't get the two beeps or any of the 8 top row lights lighting up. The only lights that come on are 2 of the 3 water level setting indicators. Not sure why this is happening

The fault code is displayed when it is beeping. While it is still beeping, read the lights along the top row. There are 8 lights. Count from left to right and write down exactly which lights are on and which are off. Post the result back here and I will tell you what it means.
