I've had several sets of Phillips cordless phones that do the same. Usually maybe 1 or 2 phones per set. Changing batteries sometimes helps.
LCD goes blank, then HS powers back on and battery meter shows near-zero. Charge for maybe 60 seconds and it shows full. Seems like a (near-)short? Phone needs a lot of juice, batteries have too much internal resistance at that high current?
Haven't solved it 100% yet. Love the phones otherwise.
