my scooter will not start, however when it did start it runs as long as the throttle was turned. As soon as you leave it to idle it cuts out, and will not start again.
I have tried and tried but will not start still, I have even fitted a new battery.
If it's Chinese and 50 cc I would say the most likely problem will be the valve clearances are too tight or at least one of them.you need to remove the rocker cover from the front of the engine take the spark plug out push the kick start down until you see the inlet valve depress then put a Thin screwdriver or similar in the spark plug hole and very gently push the kick start further down until you feel the piston push the screwdriver up until it's at its highest point, this is called top dead centre and in this position you can check the valves clearances the inlet (top) valve should be .05mm and the exhaust valve .08mm .set them and I bet it's ok

I would suspect a blocked idle jet (slow running jet)first.Clean your jets.

Shame, and we don't even know what it is - make, model, year, engine? So we haven't got a clue either!
