If you engine is one of the priimer start type there was a batch of engine that had carb faults. Some could be fixed with just new diaphragms but others needed a carb replacment and a few also had to have a modiffied air cleaner. A lot were caught in their warranty period but others have kept going until after it has expired. Take the model type and code number from your engine to your local Briggs agent and they should be able to check if your engine falls in the affected batch. Hope this helps.
