Mend Hotpoint WD440 Final Fast

Hotpoint wd440 refuses to go in to final spin?

I'm stumped by my hotpoint WD440 washer/dryer it will go through any cycle until it gets to the final spin, it then will go into the final spin and work its way up to the fast spin at which point it stops, it will then rest for approx 2 minutes and then do a few tumbles and stop again. It will then just continue doing this until its switched of. Its tho the crease guard is switched on but its not, there are no fault codes or any other problems, I thought maybe it was one of the relays on the control board that was not working, or stuck on making the machine act as if the crease guard were tuned on, please please any suggestions? Whirlpool had a problem with machines not going into final spin a few years ago.

This was a problem with the door interlock, it had a seperate conection on it (safety device) that stoped the machine doing a final spin.

Chang lock and they worked again.

But these days and been hotpoint blown eprom.

Hi,

Io am an engineer myself.
You can see their database bellow but it is rubbish. if you order the part for WD440P you will get the wrong part no matter how careful you are. They are unable to find the right one.

Im a service engineer (self employed) Sounds very much like a pcb issue. The motor is reversed via the pcb and is maybe failing due to software corruption or maybe a sticking relay? Very much doubt it will be a motor issue and deffo wont be the motor brushes on a machine of that age! Modern Hotpoint washing machines/washer dryers have MANY pcb problems! Hope that helps!

same problem. I don't know what an ee prom is.. sounds like another part gone wrong from hotpoint.
this machine has gone wrong 5 times now since bought new 4 years ago. hotpoint said last time , they won't fix it again for free.. which was like blood out the stone all other times... I agree with previous comment wd440 R U B B I S H ... enough to put you off washer dryer combi!!! Don't buy indesit/hotpoint, they are scum!

Update to my Hotpoint eeprom problem!!. Hotpoint now tell me (after 2 weeks of being made to jump through hoops!) that they will not under any circumstances supply a pre-programmed eeprom for any machine. I can however buy a blank eeprom, fit it and then get Hotpoint to come out and program it for me!, for a nominal fee of course, great stuff! well done Hotpoint!! err no!. This stinks of monopolization by Hotpoint of their software and I wouldn't be surprised if what they are doing is illegal. I'm going to purchase a eeprom programmer and a working WD440 machine (if I can find a working one!) and then decode the eeprom from it, then copy it to another eeprom. The software to reprogram the eeproms should be made freely available by Hotpoint as its their unreliable electronics that is the problem, Grrrrr, Grrrrrr!!. Let this be a lesson to all, avoid Hotpoint.

Looks like it was the Eeprom on the control module, (these devices are not supposed to lose their programing) It seems that finding the problem was the easy part because after contacting the infamous Hotpoint Spares dept and their equally infamous customer sevices dept I'm still unable to obtain the correct Eeprom. After speaking to several surly and apparently technically qualified members of safe and quoting them every number on the machine several times (I'm expecting them to ask next how many scratches the machine has on it!) they can not find the right eeprom, apparently my machines serial number WD440P 39127535 does not exist and so I must be dreaming up the whole thing!. Hotpoint! pure Quality!!

Clearly the motor control is ok, as the drum operates as normal - so it can't be the triac or brushes or control circuits. Most / all modern washers have a spin inhibit to avoid damage - this is normally based on a) water in drum - drum must pump dry within fixed time so check pump filter, outlet hose - can you hear the pump change speed as it starts to suck air, and is outlet hose showing good rate of waterflow, is main drum to pump hose blocked by coins, hairgrips, small objects + hair, b) water in drum (check that the level sensor (a sensitive air-pressure switch connected by hose to bottom of drum) is ok, c) final spin speed selection has failed - output of digital switch or variable resistor. Vary rarely the older electro-mechanical controllers failed.

Hi Phil,
Ive had a good look at the control board and cant see any obvious popped triacs, don't they usually show some signs if they have gone pop?. Ive looked at it again and now wondering if its a problem with the motor, the drum rotates clock wise before it stops, It doesn't go into the anti clock wise spin and I'm thinking is there a problem with the motor that is preventing it from doing so, or is it just not getting to that stage of the cycle to do a reverse spin. I havent looked at the motor bushes but I would guess that because the machine is only just over a year old they would be fine, also I don't think the bushes would be that predictable in that the machine stops at the same point in the cycle every time, maybe I'm wrong?. There must be an answer!!!
