Repair end of flexible hose?

The end of my hose that connects to the water faucet started pouring out water so much that hardly any water came out of the hose end. I purchased a 1/2" hose repair kit to add a new connector, and cut the end off of the hose, just to find out that a 1/2" connector is too large. How can I repair my flexible hose?
