Mend Roger Black Cross Train Working Purchased Second

Display not working correctly?

I have just purchased a second hand roger black cross train and exercise bike. Dies anyone know why my display light up and scans through but doesn't start counting, time, distance, calories etc till I've been using it for 12-14 mins. How can I get it to work correctly.
