Mend Singer 427 Not Working

Singer 427 not working?

How do I mend my Singer 427? The needle is stuck at its lowest point in the plates. I have tried to clean out the machine as much as possible and oiled it where possible. but the hand wheel is not moving the needle at all.
I have inherited it from a friend and I haven't used it yet - it was working earlier, sewing but with no stitches, now this has happened.
What can I do?

Undo the needle clamp first of all to get the needle out, turn the balance wheel backwards there may be thread jammed, failing that take out the bobbin case and have a check, if the machine turns put a new needle back in and test sew on straight stitch, if it does not sew it will need retiming. I have timing instructions, type my email address as you say it not as you see it.
