LED from the circuit board is missing?

the light emitting diode is an electronic switch,it allows currant to flow one way only,in some applications its in line with the circuitry so if its o/c your key fob wont work

From what I can gather Motor Car keyless entry systems work on Radio Frequency

Some keys have a little light (LED light) built in so you can see the keyhole in the dark. If the Led is missing then there's just no light.

Both the light and the radio control will need a working battery to operate properly.
