My Murray Millenium riding mower won't start?

My 42" Murray Millenium 2000 riding mower (14.5 HP OHV Briggs and Stratton engine) won't start. I was mowing with it and it ran fine; however, when I stopped, it would not restart - it won't even turn over. Every once in a while there is a click, but most often nothing at all happens when I turn the key. I recharged the battery, which seems to charge; but, it didn't help.
