How do I find the reversing light switch?

you have not said what type of car it is ?, but most of them are the same.

i am asuming the car is transverse driven (front wheel drive)
if this is the case lift the bonnet and the gear box is to your right as you look into the engine bay.

some where on the gear box there will be a wire going to to reversing light whitch the switch is usually covered by a rubber cover that keep water out.

remove the plug to reveal the swith check the plug terminals for corrosion as this is more likely to be your problem rather than the switch.
