Mend Sony RDR-HXD560 Start Turning Stays

How can I fix my DVD Recorder made by Sony RDR-HXD560?

My DvD Recorder(Sony RDR-HXD560) will not start. Turning the DVD on produces welcome, However that is as far as we get. Turning it off produces " power off" which stays there. Any ideas? This sounds similar to people with problems in 2008.
