Mend Remove Replace Badly

how to remove extg. misted d/g unit ?

I need to replace a large badly misted d/glazed unit puttied into a timber frame. I have removed all the external putty. The glass is a tight fit at the sides, touching the frame on one side. Is it possible to ease the unit out from inside, without breaking the glass. Or is breaking the glass the only solution? The unit is approx. 6ft.high x 3ft. wide. and has been in for at least 20 years.

It may well be puttied on the inside of the frame which is holding it tight, try running a sharp wallpaper scraper around it on the inside to break the seal and it should come out easier, failing that I would break it out and sort out the frame before replacing the new unit
