Mend Peugeot Noise Clutch Pressed

Whirring noise on my 206cc - Goes when clutch is pressed?

Hi all and thanks in advance for any helpful responses.

Last month I bought myself a 2004/54 plate Peugeot 206cc Quiksilver 1.6 16V.

I bought the car from a car auction and after getting it noticed there were a few problems.

Upon pulling off the car was making a whirring/rubbing noise from under the bonnet and the clutch was slipping badly. We thought the problem would have been because of the clutch slipping but today I managed to have a new clutch fitted (which now works perfectly, slipping has gone) but the whirring noise is still there. It isn't too loud but I don't want it there! The car still drives perfectly as it is.

It has only covered 61k miles if this would be any help and had two previous owners (both female).

Thanks

Sounds as if k is right. I'd put up with the noise unless it gets really loud, but if you really can't stand the noise it will cost a bit to replace the offending bearing.

The noise goes when the clutch is pressed. To be honest, it sounds as if the car is dragging a bag beneath it... That's the best way to describe the noise!

Thanks again.

Is the whirring noise always there with the engine on, or does it change when then the clutch pedal is pressed down?

The car does not have a dual mass flywheel.

sounds like gearbox input shaft bearing at fault.[clutch release bearing is under load when clutch pressed and would be noisy in this situation if bearing faulty].

Thank you. I know the release bearing was changed as they did initially think this was the problem even though the clutch was slipping.

I hope it's not the flywheel as I know they are expensive but I've been told it may be a gearbox fault.

I'm not even close to being a mechanic but would gearbox oil be a simple solution?

If it has not got a dual mass fly wheel on this model then i would wonder if they changed the clutch release bearing, not sure myself if they have a dual flywheel or not. Possible other fault as last resort could be a faulty gearbox as in the main lay shaft that runs out of the gearbox housing the clutch release bearing, hope this helps.

I am not sure on this model but if it has a dual mass flywheel then the synptoms you describe could be the problem.
