Mend Singer 507 Cleaned Oiled

Singer 507?

Just purchased a Singer 507 that hasn't been used in years (though it was serviced prior to it not being used!). I have cleaned and oiled it. There is some 'smoke' coming out of the top (on the right hand side) when I use it. Is this just excess oil burning off or something else?
