my vectra 2L auto Est loses power?

hi there my vectra losses power when the fuel was below 1/4 of a tank and going up a hill i solved this problem by getting inside the swirl pot in the fuel tank cleaning it out. I could not get the whole swirl pot out but got the inside out cleaned the float blew down the pipes and the one at the bottom of the swirl pot and noticed a black ink spot floating on the top of fuel I put my finger on it and it stuck to it then removed it. I still blew down the pipes and notices a very small piece of cloth in the fuel I removed it put it back together and touch wood every things great hope this helps
