our mcdee toilet has water running non stop- how can this be fixed?

there is no option to adjust water levels/ the plastic type screw has been loosened and tightened but water is still running into the cistern and then into the toilet bowl

Have had the same problem with an AVF40100. No longer made. Last October I took out washer, cleaned off grit etc, and it was OK until last night. Then I was told an Arcadia AVF10100 was a replacement. I think that is my next step after I have tried the previous 'trick'. Seems an expensive solution to a dodgy washer!!!!
