Sharp 953(sl)m microwave display issue - help needed to fix it?

The display (control panel) on my Sharp 953(sl)m microwave is illuminated but when you press any of the keys there is no display or beeping.

Initially the microwave had died, so I changed the 13amp fuse in the plug. Now the microwave has light on the control panel, but you cannot see any text.

If you try pressing any of the keys on the control panel at this point, no text is displayed, no beeps, no microwave action of any kind.

Could this issue be solved by replacing the keypad part or could it be another issue?
