Mend Diplomat 600 Hob Gas

stuck hob control?

I have a Diplomat 600 and the control knob for the biggest gas ring has completely jammed,it cannot be turned at all and i dont want to use force in case i get the gas on and then cannot turn it off again.
one day it was fine, the next unusable.
Any one had a similar problem?
