Drum too close to back panel?

I have just replaced a belt and bearing on my tumble dryer and the drum is occasionally touching the back panel as it rotates. It feels like the frame of the machine is somehow distorted. What is the cause of the drum being forced close to the back panel. The large washer is still located between the drum and the back panel correctley.
