Mend Dell Latitude 400 People Switch Pressure

dell latitude 400?

having the same problems as others people will not switch on , pressure above the buttons helps but i removed the keyboard and found 4 springs which are pressed down when the cover is put back .one is broken , are they switches it looks like they the spring end contacts the motherboard when it is reassembled ,if they are switches ,why didn't they just solder the connection ?
