Mercedes horsebox 1986 won't start??

Hello, we had a diesel stolen from our horse box last week. Since that happened it won't start. My husband had put just under 1/8 tank of diesel in and it has registered on the gage.
When starting the engine will try and turn but just won't start. The battery's arent flat and the lorry had always started first time in the past. We just don't know what to do. The breakdown guy was fairly useless. Any ideas?? We are due to go competing next week.

Probably does require bleeding ,remove and fill any filters first ,and as said earlier loosen off the injector pipes turn over the engine and as fuel with no air comes out tighten the pipes one at a time..if non electronic ,hold the throttle or pump the throttle as you try to start ...if still no joy try a little easy start or brake cleaner ,but just a 2 second blast

I would say the fuel line needs to be bled, you might have a manual priming pump on fuel pump, some do. if not loosen pipe at engine end, as close to injector unit as you can, turn over, check fuel coming out of joint, then tighten up and try to start. Had it on my boat engine, would not start, would not pull fuel, no matter how long I turned it over. until after air was bled out.
