how to fix samsung fridgefreezer rs21dcsv?

my samsung fridge freezer will not cool or freeze.The compressor can be heard coming on but 20 seconds later it will turn off.both sides are reading 16degrees,This fridge has already been fixed on a recall,there is no warrenty now as the fridge is 8 years old.I have been told it needs a new compressor,but i am not sure as it comes on then stop almost instantly.any help would be appreciated thanks nichola

We have a 10 yr old Samsung american style fridge freezer SR-S2026CVW and had the same problem. Local electrical firm made us wait for ages whilst they tried to fix it and then couldn't get the parts. Very disappointing. This website highlights that there is a known problem with this fridge freezer as shown on Watchdog. I rang Samsung twice and they denied this and would only offer the name of a repair firm 100 miles away! Not impressed by either.
And then, I found APPLIANCE DIY REPAIRS, on this site. Go to their website, select the model that you have, review their excellent explanation of the potential fault and order the parts. Costs about £125 and worth every blooming penny. The kit comes with the best instructions that I have ever seen, including photos; as a non-DIY chap, I had replaced the evaporator and its cover, plus the defrost sensor and thermal fuse and it works perfectly. I needed to buy a small side-cutter for £4 from our local DIY shop. After 8 weeks, we now have a fridge that works again and my wife is so happy. It also saved £80 to call someone out again and saved£800 not to buy a new fridge freezer.
