Mend Scantronic Help Needed Changed

Help advice needed please?

I have just moved into rented property with a scantronic alarm system. I have changed the user code for my own, but what bothers me is this, what is stopping previous tenants from simply letting themselves in entering their own user code, and taking my belongings. I have read the manual and their codes are still remembered by the alarm.

How can I deleat all the user codes that have been programmed into the alarm?,any past tenant can let themselves in, activate the alarm then silence it with thier own code, couldn't they?.

Spoke to the landlord and expressed my concernes,,but he is not interested.

Which scantronic are we talking about here ?,

Buggered if I know !,

Changing the locks can be costly, but it's worth considering, and what is this ktm guy spouting off about?. There's an idiot in every village.

There is always one isn`t there.
What about the keys as mentioned?

If there is a burglary and no sign if entry the landlord could be held responsible for not having at least one lock changed and ensuring all old codes were deleted.

To Charlotte, we need the make and model of the system. We may be able to have you delete the old codes. We also advise you change one of the locks or even better the lot, keep the old for when you leave so you can take the new ones with you. You must also give the landlord another set, and his new code for the alarm.
Although he has given you a working system it is vulnerable to anothers unauthorized use.

Ignore KTM it is obviously someone with limited knowledge of private lettings and responsibilities.

I very nearly swore at Ktm's naivety, but I managed to control myself.

"You have changed user code for one of your own codes, that's ok as all previous codes are stored"

That is CRAZY, think about it, if other codes are still programmed, Duh,.

Oh by the way I'm a a previous tenant from Charlotte's flat and while I was there I copied all the property keys, I'LL be BACK, one day.

Alarm working or not, it's your responsibility as a tenant to buy contents insurance, your landlord only has to safeguard his property with building insurance.

If you damage the system in anyway ,you maybe expected to pay for the repair ,or a proportional cost for all or such damage to existing fixtures or fittings being debited from your bond.

Read your tenancy agreement,

Your landlord presumably gave you the user code for the system, this means the system is fully functional, your landlord is only obliged to give you this, and in return he must ensure the system is fully operational, and maintain as and when required.

You have changed user code for one of your own codes, that's ok as all previous codes are stored

Oops, I meant model, it's usually somewhere on the box.

In answer to your question, yes they could.

"Spoke to the landlord and expressed my concernes,,but he is not interested."

Well he should be, the alarm is included in the fixtures & fittings, it might even be mentioned as a specific item on your lease. You have the right to have the use of it. It is the landlord's responsibility to get into a working condition for you, the code change.

As a matter of interest, please post again here with the make of the control panel.

Good luck, don't you just love landlords that shirk their responsibilities. :-)
