306 blower motor replacement ?

hi all, I seem to be having motor blower trouble. The main question on my mind is what it the pipe running in to the bottom of the motor. Is this easy to take off or is it part of the the air con system and does require a draining of the air con 1st if so before removal. As i was told this is a useless pipe.
