how to turn off the alarm when I turn off the electric?

I have an SL8 alarm (panel 8SP 402 SL8 G3.) I have just moved into the house and every time I turn off the electric it goes into alarm and the previous owner doesn't know how to stop it. Can anyone help please?

Thankyou alarm,

Honesty in business, and among friends is something I pride myself in.I don't see any reasons for finding your post challenging, quite the opposite really.

I admire your enthusiasm and attention to detail, you also sound like a very well educated chap and have no problem with grammar and can express yourself clearly, and above all you know your stuff.tbh mate you have nothing to prove to me or any of the guys on here,I for one know you are well up on reg's and system technology.

Kind regards

I understand your predicament and the work methods used. It is refreshing to see someone being honest and not seeing my comments as a slight or challenge on their reputation. You obviously know and understand the regulations, a refreshing change from others and so called professional sites where it is an ego trip for most and not being too helpful.

Most of our visits are to remote locations, but the minority are located in the larger towns,.

In the central and inner city areas our main aim is to silence and where possible shut the system down.

I can see why you questioned the bells though :)

Over here in yorkshire, we have a lot of rural areas, and it's possible to do the full test without the need of a return visit.

Neighbours are few and far between, but iam aware of and do go by regulations in built up areas.

So you do a bells and strobe test at 03:30?
And the reason you were called out by the noise prevention officer?

Using logic the system worked, the battery failed ( You do have a ACT battery test meter?). So you replace, by all means do a walk test. A bell/sounders test? They were working before were they not?
I would add another proportional cost (Time and distance) and return the next day to do a full test if required.
Generally as I contract to two local councils and am on the Met Police register we tend to shut them down and leave a note for the soon to be poor householder. Their fault they have not maintained the system. And possibly an insurance get out.

But to the statement earlier, you bell/sounder test at 03:30????

Boring on here yes,

Not so if you are on call out during the winter months when it's 3.30am and your ladders have frozen to the roof rack.

I used to relish these kind of jobs,

Replacement battery, walk test, bells & strobe,

£120 better off, thankyou very much :-)

For your own safety: (turn power off prior to removing the panels cover).

"My thoughts (and they seem to be wrong) was if power is cut/switched off and the alarm sounds then where is it getting it's power from if not the battery, hence my thoughts the battery is OK?
"

So when the power is off the EXTERNAL battery takes over, a classic example of the panel battery being fooked.

Search box would have told you this 100 times.

e manno thanks for your response. no i can't silence it there appears to be no power going to the control panel to operate the key pad.

acorn useful response and yes I have searched however looking at some of the solutions they do not always point to the battery, but my mistake I will replace the battery.

My thoughts (and they seem to be wrong) was if power is cut/switched off and the alarm sounds then where is it getting it's power from if not the battery, hence my thoughts the battery is OK?

As you can tell I don't know anything about alarms this is my first. So battery it is and thanks again guys for the quick response.

It amazes me that people manage to find their way here to ask their question, but can't find the Search Box at the top right of Every Page..

I'm looking forward to the unique question that is asked, I might answer that one.

This one has been asked so many times it must take the record!

Battery, battery, battery, .................. battery.

Can you silence it when you enter your user code?

Sounds like you need a replacement control backup battery.

Usual lifetime expectancy of these are around four/five years.
