how do i get to a washer on a old style mixer shower on wall ?

how do i get to a washer on a old style mixer shower on wall i have taken the white hot n cold stopper from the centre of the tap.
removed a screw but that seems to be as far as i can go. the tap doesnt come out so not dure if this is the right place to find the washer ?
