Mend Filter Queen Majestic Vacuum Cleaner Burning Smell Motor

we had to take the filter queen apart because it smelt like it was burning!?

once we pulled the threee screws out and took the switch out we took all the wires off the switch and now cant figure out how to hook it back up- dont wanna do the wrong thing and bust the motor... it shouldnt smell as though its burning. the cardboard insert do you really need that, what does it do?
