How easy to repair gearbox sensors / govenors?

My seat alhambra 1.9 TDi automatic (2005) has intermittent problems with gear changing. It is likely a problem with the sensors / governors that manage the gear changes meaning it does not select the appropriate gears when going up or down the gears. How easy is it to replace them and if it has to be at a garage, any ideas of costs?

there is no governor in this transmission. If it picks up drive and reverse from cold and there are no visible leaks then ATF should be present. If all the gears are working but are random it may be an engine sensor ie. T.P.S. or M.A.F. Have codes read and look at live data on at least engine,ABS and auto box to verify.

Are you sure the problem is, what you think it is? Have you checked the gearbox oil level, do you know how to, it could be that. Would be cheaper in the long run to get it checked by a auto gearbox specialist rather than changing parts that don't need changing, and stiil have the same problem. Lots of people who use this site have changed parts on their vehicle, just guessing at what the problem was and spending loads of money in the process, which, didn't cure the problem so they then ask for advice.
