thank you for your answer, we have checked the obvious, like heaters are working fine, its keeping water there's no white scum on or around the oil cap, water bottle smells fine. the smoke is constant especially when stationery. if it is the piston ring's is this an expensive job. its so annoying as the engine seams to be working fine. the car drives lovely apart from being a bit slack in second gear, meaning it takes a second to kick in. thanks again

What's the milage and has it been serviced regularly,

sounds rarther excessive for perished vso seals,

most likely bottom end wear do a compression check.

he could be on about the valve stem seals which usually show up with blue smoke on initial start up,if you have constant blue smoke then you could be looking at piston rings,head gasket,cracked head,warped head,valve guides,it is very difficult to determine what your problem is without getting the head off,there is a tool for the 8 valve engines where you can remove the overhead cam without removing head etc,get each cyl.to tdc and compress valves to remove collets and the oil seal,then rebuild etc
