Mend Renault Clio Grande 1.9 Diesel Rear Locking 2001

How do you fix driver side rear door locking device on 2001 Clio?

My son's 2001/X reg Renault Clio Grande 1.9 Diesel has 5 doors. The driver side rear door does not open when central locking is activated.All other doors open. The pop up control inside the vehicle does not extend all the way up that is should (checked by looking at other doors).Something is jammed and the door is immovable. Tried pliers to lift it to no avail. It has failed the MOT on this!!! Anyone know a way to fix this or is a big job at a renault garage perhaps?

I've got the exactly same problem on same car/age. It started to not release, and finally, even with pliers, we couldn't pull up the lock - so the door is permenantly locked.
We stripped off the door panel, but the mechanism seems to work fine - but for some reason, which cannot be seen, it is not releasing - door handles can be pulled up but it is still acting as though it is locked.
