centrel locking not working properly?

i have just purchased a 2001 renault clio, but the centrel locking isnt working properly, when i press the button the light is lighting up but doesnt lock or unlock the car, so have to use the key, but the key doesnt work to lock all the doors, just the drivers door, so i have to make sure i press the lock button inside the car then lock the drivers side, any suggestions

Key is probably coded. If not used often to start car the code can become degraded. You may need to see a good locksmith with a key reader. He can check the key and reset it if needed. (Your local garage can probably give you a name). If you have more than one key alternate them regularly. I had a similar problem and ended up paying £100 for a new key I did not need.
