speedo & rev counter drop to zero?

I have a Ford mondeo MK3 The speedo & rev counter drop to zero the temp & mileage go to dashes the engine management & battery lights come on. There is no change to the way the car behaves & the motor still has full power.
If I stop and switch off for 5 minutes the car is back to normal when I restart. Any ideas please.
