my flavel rangemaster 8 burner hobb does not burn as it should?

when the burner has been on low for some time,and i turn it to high,it flares and makes a noise and does not adjust the flame as it should be.it also sometimes goes off when its turned down, sometimes it takes a lot to ignite.
