vacuum cleaner squeaking?

i have a vax v-100 vacuum cleaner and its had a squeek for a couple of weeks. on opening the vax i noticed in the lid- which is also the motor a little flat circular disc has come loose and has gone into the motor part and i cannot find the screws to take off the cover to retrieve the disc, any ideas?
