What causes water build up in vent pipe?

the vent pipe on my White Knight tumble drier fills with quite a lot of water during use, though the end of the pipe is out of an open window. Clothes are drying, so heat is there, but a load retains approx 1 litre of water in the lower bend of the pipe. Can you advise please?
