Mend Glow-worm 50BR Heating System Thermostat Wire

i am replacing the thermostat 4 the p lite and there is a black wire hangin?

i am replacing the thermostat for the pilot light and i have found a black wire hanging down with a white pplastic cap/cover. I can find no obvious place this needs to go. the wire originates for a sensor in the hot water pipe. The model is a Glow-worm 50 br Any ideas please
