How can I fix the Sport Mode on my Citroen Xsara Picasso 2 litre Auto ?

I have a problem with the sports mode button on my Xsara Picasso Auto 2 litre exclusive 2003 model. When I push the button the light does not come on and it does not go into sports mode. I want to check out the switch itself. Can someone please tell me how to remove the silver cover on the console that houses the switch. Also, are there any other things I can check to see why it does not work. Thanks for your help!
