why will my ravenheat boiler only fire up in auto, not in constant mode?

the boiler fires up fine when it is in timed mode but if i am home during the day and want to turn the heating on the boiler will not fire up, it has to be switched of and left for a few minutes then switched back on, we sometimes have to repeat this process for up to an hour, can anyone help?
