how can you change the gearbox oil on a 2002 ford ka?

the gearbox has no drain plug!it is 'sealed for life' -how stupid! I suppose the car will end up in the scrap yard a lot earlier than it should. I suppose Ford think that people will be stupid enough to buy another one!Not me! Can a hole be drilled in the sump and a 'self tapper screw' be put in?

is it leaking?has it been contaminated? then why do you want to drain and refill it?i dont see it as stupid but another saving on servicing costs!! there is no carbon contaminating oil as there is in engine and if you drain it it will probably look the same as the day it was put in.there is also a magnet inside gearbox to attract small metallic particles from the oil.

The data I have Autodata & Ford workshop manual both show a drain plug and a fill plug, the drain plug (Allen headed bolt) is just outboard of the joint between the bellhousing and the main gearbox casing and the fill plug is on the front face about halfway up the casing near the joint of the bellhousing and fill to 5~10mm below the hole level with 75W/90 synthetic total capacity 2.8l
