Mend Bolens BL100 Replace Flex Drive Shaft

How do I replace the flex drive shaft?

I recently bought a new flex drive shaft for a Bolens BL100 trimmer but can't get it to go far enough into the trimmer head so that I can reattach it to the motor. Is there some way to disassemble the head to set the shaft by sight?
