Mend Vectra 18 Cutting Out

Vectra 1.8 Cutting Out While Driving?

Hi All

I have read some of the posts on this forum and will try some of the things i have found but my problem.

I have a 1999 1.8 Manual Vectra. While driving the engine will become eratic (rev counter jumps all over the place) and cut out or some times restart without any problems the only fault i have is the engine management light sometimes comes on. Further to this when i start the car on occassions the engine management light will remain on, restart the car and it will clear.

I gues it will be a sensor somewhere but which one and where

Thanks to anyone that can help

hi mate this is a common problem with vauxhalls it happened on my mates vectra 1.8 sri and his calibra and this sorted it. does the car cut out when idling if so it could be the idle control valve, remove and clean, clean the housing to also clean the air intake butterfly. i hope this info is of some use to you

Darren,

There may be an ECU fitted in your car which is an Electronic Computer unit.
Some modern cars have one and the computer tells you when service is due along with indicating several other things that need attention.

Check if there is an ECU fitted and then take the car for inspection as it seems your engine certainly needs attention.
Sometimes the ECU can be reset without major repairs carried out, depending if there really is the need.

Don't go to just one mechanic, go to several to avoid being ripped off. This way you'll know if they all diagnose the same problem rather than take you for ride.

Regards

Harry

Sorry i live in Kent

I had been led to believe this was a common fault, hence why i want to do it myself, the prices charged at vauxhall are a rip off

Cheers

It needs decoding from a garage to find out what the problem is. If you live in norfolk the i can do this for you.
Kind Regards.
